The test consists of two minutes of timed push-ups and curl-ups followed by a timed 1.5 mile run. Passing the PRT every semester is a requirement for service at the Naval Academy. Failure to pass the PRT will result in separation from the Naval Academy.
The Navy physical readiness test consists of push-ups, curl-ups (sit-ups), and either running or swimming. In basic training, swimming is not an option. All boot-camp recruits are measured by performing push-ups, curl-ups (sit-ups) and running 1½ miles. Event consists of running 1.5 miles as quickly as possible.
What are the max scores on the CFA?
Candidates’ raw scores will be converted to scale scores (0- 100 points ) based upon their performance on each event. The 100-point maximum score, by event and gender, are listed in the table below.
Push-ups: You must complete at least 42 push-ups in two minutes. Sit-ups: You must complete at least 52 sit-ups in two minutes.
Females must complete 17 push-ups and finish the 1.5-mile run in 15.5 minutes or less. As sailors age, the number of required push-ups continues to decreases for each age group.
In the Navy, the height requirement for both men and women ranges from 57 to 80 inches (145 to 203 centimeters). While the acceptable weight for men in relation to height ranges between 127 to 241 pounds (58 to 109 kilograms), in women, it set from 127 to 227 pounds (58 to 103 kilograms).
Passing the Navy Swim Test If you can’t swim, don’t worry. The Navy instructors will teach you how (at least well enough to pass this test). In order to graduate from Navy basic training, you must score at least a “Good (Low)” score on the normal Navy Physical Readiness Test (PRT).

Who can administer USMA CFA?
The CFA MUST be administered by a high school/prep school physical education teacher, a coach, a current JROTC instructor, an active duty commissioned officer, or the candidate’s Blue and Gold Officer. The test must also be administered according to the following directions in a single 40-minute time period.
Whether you’re a skilled swimmer or have never swum a stroke, you’re welcome in the Navy. Part of Navy boot camp is the swim test. Many Sailors join the Navy without knowing how to swim, but instructors at boot camp are trained to teach you everything you’ll need to know before the test.
Is 1.5 miles in 14 minutes good?
By not doing too much, too fast, too often, you will save yourself from certain injury. However, you must have a plan that will build you up so your goal will be faster than a 14:30 1.5 mile run. Usually, a good minimum standard for the 1.5 mile run is closer to 10:30 (or a 7:00/mile pace).
How many push-ups do you do in basic training?
It measures your physical strengths, abilities and cardio-respiratory fitness. You are required to pass the basic training APFT to graduate boot camp and continue on to advance infantry training. The three PFT events are two minutes of push-ups, two minutes of sit-ups and a timed two-mile run.
